    Learn C, G, Am and D. Those are the most common chords and if you know those you can play A LOT of songs.

    I use G, C, D, and Em mostly but that works!

    A lot of songs use Em but Am would be a better chord for novices to learn first.

    No problem. F is also a good one to learn. It's originally a barred chord but most people play it the following way:

    1st fret, 2nd string
    2nd fret, 3rd string
    3rd fret, 4th string

    It's the simplest version of the chord.
